# Moving Shows Between Computers

Use a `.mic` file to move a show between computers.

The file carries the allocation plan. Licence activation, network settings and performance completion records are managed separately.

## Save on the original computer

1. Open the show in StageMic.
2. Select **Save**.
3. Choose a recognisable filename and location.
4. Transfer that `.mic` file to the other computer.

You can use a USB drive, file share, email attachment or another transfer method.

Autosave remains on the original computer. Save a separate `.mic` file to transfer your latest work.

## Open on the receiving computer

1. Install StageMic.
2. Activate a valid licence.
3. Select **Load** and choose the transferred file.
4. Respond to the save-current-show prompt.
5. Check the production name, scene order and allocations.

Where file associations are configured, you can also double-click the `.mic` file.

## What moves with the show

The file includes:

* Scenes, characters and actors.
* Character-to-actor links.
* Mics and allocations.
* Mic table assignments.
* Intentional multiple-mic approvals.
* The incomplete-handover alert setting.
* Stable scene identifiers used by individual OSC cues.

## What does not move

The following are not included:

* Licence activation.
* Display and OSC interfaces or ports.
* The Crew password.
* Remembered Crew browser logins.
* Handover completion records.

Configure these separately on the receiving computer.

## Licence activation

The receiving computer needs an available activation slot on a suitable licence.

If you are retiring the original computer and need to release its slot, deactivate it from the Licence screen while connected to the internet.

Do this after any running performance. Deactivation quits StageMic and stops its displays.

A `.mic` file does not transfer or release a licence activation.

## Reconnect backstage displays

Open Network setup on the receiving computer and check its display interface and port.

Use its generated links or QR codes to connect backstage devices. The computer’s address may differ from the original, so existing bookmarks may need updating.

Set a Crew password on the receiving computer if required.

## Check OSC control

Individual scene identifiers remain in the transferred show, so its scene-specific OSC addresses remain the same.

However, your controller may need a new destination address or port for the receiving computer.

If QLab and StageMic run together on the replacement Mac, the default localhost destination can remain appropriate. If they run on separate computers, check the network destination carefully.

## Prepare completion tracking

Completion records do not travel with the show.

Before the performance, use **Reset all completions** on the receiving computer to establish a clean starting state, especially if that computer has opened the production before.

## Avoid conflicting copies

StageMic does not merge edits or synchronise shows between computers.

If both copies are edited, decide which is the current version before transferring again. Use descriptive filenames to distinguish revisions.

## Before running the show

Check:

* The correct show version is loaded.
* The licence is ready for the intended offline use.
* Allocations and actor links are correct.
* The opening scene can be selected.
* OSC cues reach the new computer.
* Backstage displays connect and follow scene changes.
* Completion tracking is ready for the performance.

Keep a separate backup of the transferred `.mic` file.
