# Mic Plot

The Mic plot is where you edit the show’s mic allocations.

Each row represents a physical mic. Each column represents a scene.

## Assigning a character

Find the cell where the mic row and scene column meet, then choose a character from its dropdown.

The same allocation immediately appears in the Character and Actor plots.

Choose the unassigned option to clear that cell, or **Mic table** to record an explicit return to or collection from the table.

## Reading the plot

A cell can contain:

* The assigned character.
* A detected handover involving that mic.
* A multiple-mic warning.
* An intentional double-mic label.

Handovers appear in the scene where StageMic places the change. This may be an unassigned scene before the next wearer’s allocation.

See [Understanding Handovers](/v1.11/understanding-handovers).

## Filling forward

Select a wearer, then press the cell’s **→** button to copy that allocation into following blank scenes.

Filling stops before the next existing assignment, including Mic table.

See [Filling Allocations Forward](/v1.11/filling-allocations-forward).

## Clearing allocations

To clear one cell, choose the unassigned option.

To clear a mic throughout the show, click its number on the left and confirm.

Clearing a mic leaves the numbered mic available for new allocations.

See [Clearing Allocations](/v1.11/clearing-allocations).

## Multiple-mic warnings

Red cells indicate that a character or linked actor has more than one mic in that scene.

Correct accidental allocations using the dropdowns.

If the allocation is deliberate, use **Mark as intentional** or **Apply to matching scenes**.

See [Conflicts and Intentional Double-Mic'ing](/v1.11/conflicts-and-intentional-double-mic-ing).

## Scrolling

The mic numbers and scene headings stay visible as you scroll around the plot.

For large shows, scroll horizontally to reach later scenes and vertically to reach additional mics.

## Printing

Use **Print → Mic plot** to produce a formatted report.

Printing uses a separate report layout rather than printing the editor window.

The "**Export mic labels**" button allows you to print labels for each of your mic packs, showing who wears it. The button exports a CSV file with either Character or Actor names. This can be exported as a table and pasted into a word processor, before being printed.

We recommend formatting this at size 11, with a height of 1.25cm per table row. This ensures each label fits under a standard piece of clear tape.
