If OSC does not change StageMic’s current scene, check the destination, transport and message separately.

Confirm manual control works

Select a scene manually in StageMic. If the editor and backstage displays respond correctly, focus on the OSC connection or controller configuration.

Check the destination

The default OSC receiver is: Localhost works only when the sender and StageMic run on the same computer. For a controller on another computer:
  1. Select a reachable interface or All interfaces in StageMic.
  2. Apply the network settings.
  3. Set the controller’s destination to the StageMic computer’s reachable address.
  4. Match the configured OSC port.
Do not send OSC to the display server’s browser port.

Check the transport

StageMic receives properly encoded OSC over UDP. It does not interpret plain text sent to the UDP port as OSC. A TCP connection is also unsuitable. In QLab, use an OSC message patch with UDP transport.

Test a simple message

Send:
Use no arguments. If no scene is selected, this selects the first scene. At the final scene, it cannot advance further, so select an earlier scene before testing again.

A specific scene cue does not work

Select the intended scene manually and copy its reference message from Network setup again. Check that:
  • The cue uses the correct show’s scene identifier.
  • The scene has not been deleted and recreated.
  • The message contains no accidental spaces or altered characters.
  • The controller sends to the correct computer and port.
Renaming or reordering an existing scene preserves its identifier. Recreating it does not.

A numeric scene message fails

Send the scene position as an OSC integer argument. For example:
This selects the third scene in production order. The string "3" is treated as an identifier, rather than a scene position. Scene names are not accepted as substitutes for identifiers.

StageMic advances twice

Check for:
  • Duplicate Network cues.
  • Repeated button presses or triggers.
  • The same message sent through multiple patch destinations.
  • A manual advance followed by an automatic one.
Each next-scene message advances once. StageMic does not merge repeated advances into a single action. Use a specific scene cue to restore the intended position.

Cues select the wrong scene after editing

Numeric cues select by position. Inserting, removing or reordering scenes can change their meaning. Use stable scene-specific addresses for reference cues, and review positional cues after changing scene order.

Check the network and firewall

For OSC from another computer, confirm that the devices can communicate and that the firewall permits incoming UDP traffic on StageMic’s configured OSC port. OSC has no authentication. Use a trusted show network.

Check network status

Review the OSC activity and error information in Network setup. StageMic does not send an OSC acknowledgement back to the controller, so confirm the result using its current-scene selector or a connected display. See OSC Dictionary for supported messages.
