StageMic runs on a controlling computer. Backstage displays run in web browsers on devices connected to that computer over a local network.

Controlling computer

The current version requires:
PlatformOperating system
macOSmacOS 13 Ventura or later
WindowsWindows 10 or later, 64-bit
These operating-system requirements follow the Electron runtime used by StageMic v1.10. Download a build appropriate for your computer’s processor. Availability of Intel, Apple silicon and Windows ARM builds depends on the downloads provided for that release. StageMic does not require QLab, an audio interface or a connection to your radio mic system.

Backstage display devices

Backstage displays can be opened on:
  • iPads and other tablets.
  • iPhones and other smartphones.
  • Mac, Windows and other laptops or desktop computers.
Use an up-to-date browser with JavaScript and cookies enabled. Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox are suitable browsers to try. Display devices do not need StageMic installed or a separate StageMic licence. The controlling computer must remain running with StageMic open while backstage displays are in use.

Network connection

The controlling computer and backstage devices must be on a network that allows them to communicate. Wi-Fi, Ethernet or a combination of both can be used. Guest networks and networks with client isolation may prevent connections, even when devices appear to be on the same Wi-Fi. Internet access is not required for communication between StageMic and its backstage displays.

Internet access and licensing

An internet connection is required for:
  • Initial licence activation.
  • Any online check-in required by your licence.
  • Starting each new trial session.
  • Online licence-management actions, including deactivation.
A paid licence with a valid offline allowance can start StageMic without an internet connection. Once a valid show session has started, losing internet access does not interrupt it. See Licences and Activation and Trial Licences.

OSC control

OSC control requires software or hardware capable of sending supported OSC messages over UDP. QLab can run on the same computer as StageMic or on another computer with a network connection to it. Other OSC controllers can also be used. See QLab Integration and the OSC Dictionary.
